The modernization of the pyro process is expected to de- liver lower emissions of nearly all air pollutants while anticipating an in- crease in the plant's capacity. The contract includes a dryer crusher, a single-stage preheater with an ILC-cal- ciner, a dedusting cyclone, a Rotax-2 kiln, a kiln bypass system, a Duoflex kiln burner and an FLSmidth Cross-Bar cooler. With the installation of two new FLSmidth dust collectors, the project will significantly improve the plant's ability to reduce the particulate emissions. The partnership further demonstrates FLSmidth's ability to help U.S. cement producers prepare for the upcoming NESHAP regulations, noted the com- pany in a press release. Ash Grove Promotes CFO to President, COO Ash Grove Cement Co.'s board of direc- tors announced that J. Randall (Randy) Vance was promoted to president and chief operating officer, effective imme- diately. Vance, who served three years as senior vice president of administra- tion and chief financial officer, assumes responsibility for manufacturing and sales of the company's cement opera- tions, as well as continuing to lead its finance, accounting, risk management, information technology and human re- sources departments. "Since joining Ash Grove, Randy has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills that fit well in the Ash Grove culture," said Charles T. Sunderland, chairman of the board and chief ex- ecutive officer. "Randy brings a breadth of business experience to Ash Grove, which gives us confidence that he will be a catalyst in guiding the company's performance." Sunder- land will continue in his present role. "It is a privilege to be selected to lead such a talented and dedicated team. Our focus on safety, quality and cus- tomer service is exceptional in the ce- ment industry. I am eager to continue to grow our business as a supplier of choice," said Vance. Before joining Ash Grove, Vance served as senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Interstate Bak- eries Corp. Prior to Interstate Bakeries, Vance served in a number of corporate finance roles at Farmland Industries Inc. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where he earned a bachelor's and master's de- gree in business administration. The company has launched a search for a new chief financial officer. J. RANDALL VANCE Former Votorantim CEO, Chairman Dies Brazilian entrepreneur Antonio Ermirio de Moraes died Aug. 24 of heart fail- ure at his São Paulo home. He was 86. After taking control of his family's company, Grupo Votorantim, in the early 1970s, Ermirio de Moraes guided it through Brazil's hyperinflation era, expanded it considerably and began its internationalization process. Today, the conglomerate is present in more than 20 countries and employs some 43,000 workers worldwide. Mainly led by the family's fourth gen- eration and a team of professional ex- ecutives, it is the nation's biggest cement maker and has interests in aluminum, pulp and paper, energy, agriculture and finance.
