PRODUCTS VALVE BAGS Mondi Americas unveiled a valve bag solution that enables fillers to meet bag requirements for rapid filling speed and optimum moisture protection at Pack Expo 2013. According to Kevin Young, president of Mondi Americas, the new product development demonstrates Mondi's commitment to the North American marketplace. "The new valve bag solution, called Airstream, is just one example of the innovation that businesses in North America will see coming from Mondi Americas," he stated. "Mondi is in touch every day with solutions that meet the needs of packaging and paper users worldwide. Look for a continuing stream of new products to flow from our R&D; facilities that support the packaging industry with cost, efficiency and labor-saving benefits." The Airstream valve solution allows for a bag's quick de-aeration without perforating its PE-barrier foil. The bags are tailored to meet the requirements of fine powder filling and high-end filling lines. Applications include powdery and hygroscopic products, especially in the chemical and high-value building materials industries where they are used to pack- age floor leveling compounds, rapid drying cementitious products, special tile adhesives and gypsum. In operation, the Airstream valve bag's unique de-aeration system significantly improves air-permeability without affecting its moisture protection function. The air that is contained in powdery product and set free inside the bag during filling is channeled and forms a stream of air which is directed and effectively guided to a high-capacity interrupted longitudinal seam outlet. The air escapes quickly and the filling process is accelerated. The bag's quick de-aeration can reduce bag dimension requirements. Also presented at Pack Expo 2013 were Mondi's ONE single-ply bags, which are now available in Mexico. Designed for high-speed filling of powdered goods, the ONE bag is made of unbleached 110g/m2 or bleached 120g/m2 paper. The high-performance paper allows for both a significant reduction of material and a high-strength bag. The bag's high stiffness and porosity values make for fast and clean filling with top performance on the filling spout. EXTRA cement is specially designed at the molecular level to reduce cracking due to plastic contraction by up to 80 percent during the curing periods for concrete and mortars. This allows the contractor to give clients better quality results and to generate savings by avoiding the need to repair and seal cracks. It also creates a more manageable mix with better integration and cohesion. "The development of this new product presented an interesting strate- 30 gic challenge; Cemex could launch it as a new Premium product or substitute the product entirely, thereby achieving a product that is much better than what other companies can offer. We decided to pursue the latter and came up with the concept of EXTRA, which has now been incorporated into all our cement brands throughout Mexico," said Ricardo Naya, commercial and marketing vice-president for Cemex in Mexico. Furthermore, there is no product currently available from Cemex or any other company that can avoid cracking due to land settling or seismic activity. novations that allow it to develop new products with better attributes that contribute to the more efficient and cost-effective construction of structures, from small self-construction projects to high-scale infrastructure.
