BRIEFS ACTIVITIES & APPOINTMENTS Civil Engineering at the University of Michigan. Known for his work in earth- quake-resistant design of concrete struc- tures, Wight's recent research has concentrated on the strength and inelastic behavior of connections in composite structures (reinforced concrete and steel) and the use of high-performance fiber re- inforced concrete composites for earth- quake-resistant design of critical members in concrete structures. Wight has been an active member of ACI since 1973. Additionally, William Rushing Jr., FACI, vice president of Waldemar S. Nelson & Co., Inc., has been elected ACI vice president, and Anne Ellis is now the Institute's senior vice president. Four members have been elected to serve on the ACI Board of Direc- tion: Roger Becker, managing director of re- search and development for Precast/ Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI); Jeffrey Coleman, FACI, licensed engineer and attor- ney/principal partner at Coleman, Hull & van Vliet, PLLP; Robert Frosch, FACI, profes- sor of civil engineering at Purdue University; and, Steven Kosmatka, FACI, vice president of research and technical services at Port- land Cement Association. Paul Haglund has joined CTLGroup as the firm's director of finance. Haglund is an accomplished financial executive with global experience in the management of engineering and architecture firms for over 30 years. He specializes in strategic planning, financial planning, cost ac- counting, accounting systems, risk man- agement and organization development. In his new role, Haglund will be respon- sible for the management of CTLGroup's fi- nancial operations, including long-range financial planning, corporate financial performance analysis, annual budget and audit process and the corporate account- ing system. He will provide financial input to the firm's leadership team and its Prac- tice Group Leaders. Prior to joining CTLGroup, Haglund was the principal and owner of his own finan- cial consulting firm for several years. Before that, he served as principal and chief fi- nancial officer at Greeley and Hansen LLC. MANUFACTURERS David Weber has joined Command Alkon as senior consultant for its innovative opti- mization product, COMMANDoptimize. His new role at Command Alkon will focus on helping customers iden- tify and implement changes using its optimization product to achieve greater efficiencies and profits. Rice Lake Weighing Systems has pur- chased Measurement Systems International (MSI), a scale equipment manufacturer based in Seattle, Wash. Since 1977, MSI has provided niche technologies such as crane scales, air- craft load monitors, and more, that are sought after and distributed throughout the world.
