INNOVATIONS EQUIPMENT & PRODUCTS BASF PROGRAMS CONSISTENT CONCRETE VALUE TOOL BASF Admixture Systems' latest electronic tool models potential dollar savings pro- ducers can achieve with improved concrete mix consistency, a metric reflected in the need for little or no on-site adjustment of a load or changes to the casting, consoli- dating and finishing processes on a batch- to-batch or day-to-day basis. The Consistent Concrete Value Tool (CCVT) calculates an estimate from market data and producer inputs, including the ef- fect certain situations that may occur on the jobsite have on the bottom line. "The final product is a value estimate that can be printed and utilized to demonstrate the savings that can be achieved with consis- tent concrete," says BASF Product Manager Joseph Daczko. "The tool identifies ways consistent concrete can contribute to sus- tainable construction." More than 125 CCVT evaluations have been conducted thus far for North American customers, he adds. Additional information on CCVT and perform- ance characteristics of BASF's RheoTEC Z-60 workability retaining admixture can be ob- tained at www.basf-admixtures.com/rheotec. WATER REDUCER TAILORED TO MIXES DESIGNED WITH SCM With an eye to sustainable construction, BASF Admixture Systems has formulated a new water-reducing admixture, Pozzolith 700N, for use in ready mixed concrete de- signed with SCM. It provides faster setting time in the face of supplementary binders, which typically challenge contractors by ex- tending a mixture's set window. Pozzolith 700N will allow producers to re- design concrete mixes with SCM to achieve significant material cost savings and pro- vide customers normal setting time per- formance, notes BASF Product Manager Jeffrey Ma. "Sustainable construction is un- doubtedly the strongest industry trend today," he adds. "With Pozzolith 700N, we are helping producers develop and promote sustainable concrete mixtures that offer SYNTHETIC BLEND LUBRICANT ConocoPhillips Co. offers Kendall Super-D XA with Liquid Titanium, a premium tier API CJ-4 diesel engine oil formulated with an exclusive liquid-titanium technology that provides reduced bearing corrosion, enhanced engine wear protection, and has increased oxidation stability. Kendall Super-D XA with Liquid Tita- nium is an enhancement to Cono- coPhillips' API CJ-4 synthetic blend engine oil made from an advanced, low SAPS (sulfated ash, phosphorous and sul- fur) technology, and is approved under the latest heavy duty engine oil specifi- cations from major engine builders. WWW.CONCRETEPRODUCTS.COM "Kendall Super-D XA with Liquid Titanium is the first and only multi-grade, heavy duty engine oil of its kind, which raises the bar for novel diesel engine oil technology," said Reginald Dias, director, Commercial Prod- ucts, ConocoPhillips Co. "Kendall Super-D XA with Liquid Titanium is engineered from ad- vanced high-performance additives and a blend of synthetic and high-quality Group II base stocks. We chose to add liquid titanium because it is a powerful additive that strongly bonds to metal surfaces at the mo- lecular level, adding an extra layer of pro- tection to further reduce wear on critical parts and help extend engine life. It also in- creases the oxidation stability of the oil, helping to prolong oil life during service." In addition to previously documented performance benefits, where the Cono- coPhillips premium API CJ-4 engine oil was already proven to outperform leading com- petitive products in several key perform- ance features, Kendall Super-D XA with Liquid Titanium features extra engine-pro- tection characteristics including reduced wear of critical parts in the severe Cummins ISB test and reduced wear, less deposits and increased oil-oxidation stability in other industry standard engine tests and bench tests. — www.conocophillips.com MAY 2012 | 43 the characteristics engineers expect." In addition to Pozzolith 700N, BASF offers a range of products, technologies, and tools for sustainable construction, including the Integrated Durability-Sustainability Wizard and Eco-Efficiency Analysis. Both help con- crete practitioners identify economical mix solutions with minimized ecological impact. — www.basf-admixtures.com/sustainability
