The film is used in conjunction with Beumer's Stretch Hood A technology, which provides secure, five-sided protection of palletized prod- ucts and offers approximately 10 times more throughput than stretch wrapping, noted the company. Used in various industries, the stretch hood system has proven especially reliable in the chemical and building materials industry as an alternative to the traditional thermal shrink film or stretch wrapping packaging methods. Previously, there has not been a packaging system for pallets on the market that did not require the operator to open the film with a cut- ting tool, which increases the risk of employee accidents and for damaging the product. The easy-opening hood makes it easier and safer for employees, and saves time. Beumer Group, www.beumergroup.com PHOTO CREDIT: BEUMER Group GmbH & Co. KG A new Bulk-Out low profile discharger from Flexicon raises and positions rigid Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) without the use of a forklift, and makes a dust- tight connection to a surge hopper available with out- lets to charge a flexible screw conveyor, tubular cable conveyor or pneumatic conveying system. Lifting arms fitted with four eye hooks connect to the portable IBC frame, which is equipped with four invert- ed cradle cups that mate with corresponding posts on the discharger frame for precise positioning of the IBC outlet. When lowered into position, the tapered out- let of the IBC's butterfly discharge valve mates with a gasketed receiving ring on the lid of a surge hopper, al- lowing opening of the valve and discharging of material with no dusting. The purpose-built stainless steel IBC hopper frame measures 36 in. (914 mm) square by 38 in. (965 mm) high and includes two swivel and two rigid casters with brakes. Quick-release clamps secure the hinged hopper lid during transport and discharge of material. A port on the lid of the surge hopper is vented to a Bag-Vac dust collector that puts the sealed system under negative pressure, preventing displaced air and dust from entering the plant atmosphere.
