6 CEMENT AMERICAS • Winter 2018 • www.cementamericas.com CEMENTSCOPE GCC Releases October, November Financial Results M e x i c o - b a s e d G r u p o C e m e n t o s de Chihuahua, S.A.B. de C.V. (GCC) announced that total cement sales volumes increased 18.2 percent in the first 11 months of 2017, largely on the strength of strong United States cement sales in October and Novem- ber. The United States generates around 75 percent of GCC's revenues. October and November U.S. cement sales volumes were up 31.2 percent compared to the same period of 2016. For the first 11 months, U.S. cement volumes increased 28.8 percent from the comparable 2016 period. The increase reflects strong demand and GCC 's acquisitions in Texas and New Mexico late last year. CNBM relies on recycling and uses the heat of burnt industrial waste to power its plants whenever possible. Technological innovation allows the cement group to optimize the pro- duction cycle to reduce emissions and energy consumption. As the newly appointed president of the WCA, Song said he will embrace the importance of joint efforts. "I want to unite members, active- ly strive for support from all sectors including governments and non-gov- ernmental organizations, safeguard interests of the industry, fulfil social responsibilities and promote the sus- tainable development of the global cement industry in the future," Song proclaimed. Song has more than 30 years of expe- rience in business and management in China's building material industry. He has been chairman of CNBM since October 2005, and previously served other board-level roles at China Unit- ed, BNBMG and China National Phar- maceutical Group Corp. October and November sales vol- umes in Mexico also grew 10.2 per- cent, rebounding from decreases earlier in the year. For the first 11 months, Mexico cement volumes decreased 1.6 percent. GCC total cement sales volumes reached almost 4 million metric tons (Mt) for the January-November peri- od, a new record for the company. Enrique Escalante, GCC´s chief execu- tive officer, said, "GCC reached record cement sales volumes as a result of strong demand and high level of backlog in our core markets, espe- cially West Texas, Colorado, South Dakota, and the state of Chihuahua. In addition, builders and contrac- tors enjoyed favorable weather in October and November, which off- set the effect of some weather and project-related delays in the third quarter. As a result, we are confident that GCC will significantly exceed our U.S. volume outlook for the year and, as a result, also surpass our EBITDA growth target." The company now expects consoli- dated EBITDA growth for 2017 to be greater than 25 percent, compared to the previous outlook of approxi- mately 20 percent.
